The Last Page…

by Navratra

Nakshi has scored the highest marks in the entire state in metric exams and why not: a well-educated family, an engineer father, who has already constructed many dreams for his daughter’s future; a Principal mother, who gave her daughter all the lessons on “How to be successful!”; and a scientist brother with all his elderly theories; how fortunate Nakshi was! Akanksha, her classmate, asked her after the result “You know, Nakshatra, there is no one in my family to guide me in choosing subjects, can your parents help me?”. “Why not!” said Nakshi, taking Akanksha along while getting back home. Akanksha sat with Nakshi’s father and had an hour-long discussion about different subject streams and their future scope. After clearing all her doubts, Akanksha said “Thank you so much uncle for your guidance, now I am sure that Maths is my subject of interest, so I’ll also opt science along with Nakshatra…”. “But Nakshi is going with Humanities” Nakshi’s father interrupted, very proudly, leaving Akanksha astounded. Before she could have said something, Nakshi’s mother went to the study room and came back with a beautiful miniature painting. It was the last page of Nakshatra’s maths book, they all smiled.
