Imagine a World Without Her

by Kunal Roy
She is Lata Mangeshkar. She is still the incomparable Nightingale of India. Can you imagine the World of Movies without her mellifluous voice? Feel goosebumps on your skin or get scared of the fact that the eyes give birth to tears – right!
The world is yet to believe to continue without her eternal presence. The doors would be shut. The corridors would never be lit up to breed an uncanny ambiance in “Poonam ki Raat”! The Savanna Grasslands would have been rendered lifeless. The heroines would have fled far away. The music directors would have signed off. The seven colours of the rainbow would have forgotten to rise in the rain-washed sky! Darkness would have loomed large, the poetry of the universe would have ceased forever and the tune would have completely disappeared not only from the earthly vibes but also the Garden of Paradise! An era of darkness. Not a single speck of the sun would have been able to remove the darkness and bring back the radiance we always look for!
There would not be any expression like divine and divinity. The conch would not have been blown off, the candles could not have been lit and the echo of the cosmic vibration would have been an act of unalloyed fantasy! In fact, she was endowed with such qualities that smoothened her path to reach the apex of Himalayas! Yet in one of her interviews, she told,”I do not want to be reborn. And if there is so – I do not want to come back as Lata Mangeshkar (laughs). This is because Lata Mangeshkar knows only her pains and sufferings!”. After all the ‘inside story’ is not always pleasant as conceived to be!!
