“An Awakening”
The blood that flows in my veins
is of a woman who I can neither
fear nor fight with, nor even touch.
One day . . . the sun woke me up
and, whispered revealingly, that
my writing carries a unique flavour
When shared with my father,
He laughed and laughed . . .
Smiling, he disclosed that his father’s
mischievous mind runs through me
A decade just passed like this . . .
Until one day, I was awakened
to the songs imprisoned in my mother’s heart,
a history shared both by my mother, and her mother.
Perceptions changed again
why didn’t my father say anything?
Despite knowing that my writings have a different poetic route
why did he uplift his father?
The creator of those ideas is no more today, do you see my Nani?
Her songs are latent in my mother’s heart,
waiting for that torrential motherly love that would kindle her again.
I, too, am waiting for that day, when my mother, too, can write
stories flavoured with blood and anger which even
her mother’s soul can listen and relish . . . thus awakening her again.
