Onward March

Onward, onward march we Indians

Seventy years of Freedom rule

Reminds the month of August…. 15

(After that all is forgotten

 Our conscience goes to sleep)

Looking back over the glorious past

India marches ahead of all,

But social inequality, injustice supreme

Makes us forget our goals and dreams

Gandhi’s cry for educational reforms

Must highlight this vision for all

Striding onwards, we must not forget

‘Hartals’ stall the Nation back.

To build an India strong and stout

Create amity more than strife

Freedom is the breath of life

Do not forget those who died.

Modern culture, modern thought

Cannot shun intellectual might

Freedom of the press and pen

Must remain true and fresh

Curb your personal ’vaulting ambition’

Do not lead the Nation to destruction

Macbeth’s fate was sealed and doomed

When the witches round him swooned

If like Hamlet we procrastinate

Corruption will surely seal our fate.

India’s  leaders  visionaries bright

Built the nation with foresight;

Creating milestones of liberal growth

 Soaring high with passionate pride

Shaping destiny with every stride

The wheel of fortune spins high and high

Growth, Prosperity and enterprise

Zeal and fervor mark the night

When August 15 comes in sight

  1. It’s a very good poem. Hopefully it makes people remember realise that we are Indians each day of our life & not just on 15th of August & 26th of January.

  2. well supported Ms. Anu
We as Indians must always glorify our country and express faith for our nation not only on Aug 15 and 26th Jan But all the year round as you have rightly pointed out. Devotion comes first not as divided states of the country
    We are Indians
