The Strange Experience

by Pratik Mainali

When I found myself lost in the empty streets of a sleepy little town, it was the middle of a rainy night and the sky was gloomy. The wind was howling like a pack of wolves, and the rain was falling in sheets, soaking me to the bone. In addition, the rain was making a terrible noise. Never before had I experienced feelings of being so isolated, bewildered, and terrified.

But that was before I happened upon the old, run-down house on the outskirts of town. Since then, I’ve changed my tune. It was a peculiar location, with windows that had been boarded up and a door that was detached from its hinges. I couldn’t help but feel an odd pull towards it, as if I were being drawn in by some unseen power, and I couldn’t shake the feeling that I was being drawn in.

I didn’t give it a second thought before pushing the door open and walking in. The only thing that was lit up in the house was the solitary light bulb that hung from the ceiling. But there was something strange about the location, something that made the hair stand up on the back of my neck.

As I made my way through the house, I started to become aware of several stray particulars that appeared to be out of place. My feet made a squeaking sound as I walked across the flooring, and I noticed that the walls had some unusual marks and symbols on them. The unsettling stillness only served to heighten my sense of dread, as I had the unshakeable impression that I was being observed.

After then, I was the one who overheard the hushed conversation coming from the room that was located at the very end of the hallway. I went in the direction of the sound without giving it much thought as I approached it. As I got closer to the entrance, the muttering became increasingly audible, until it reached a deafening cacophony.

My hands were shaking as I twisted the doorknob and opened the door, but I managed to accomplish it. Once inside, I discovered a chamber that was completely unique in comparison to anything else I had ever observed. In the faint light, the walls were coated in a thick, dark substance that gave the impression that it was writhing and shifting. And there, in the middle of the room, stood a person that was obscured by the shadows.

The characteristics of the apparition were so faint that I could not make them out, but I could feel the force and malevolence it exuded. I had the impression that it was luring me in, and as I got nearer, I could feel a pull in that direction. I made an effort to put up a fight, but it seemed as though someone or something else was in charge of my body.

As I stood in front of the figure, I could feel the icy hands of the creature wrapping around my neck and choking me. After then, there was complete and total darkness.

When I came to, I found myself lying on the ground inside the home. After the storm had gone, the sun was able to shine through the windows that had been boarded up. But I knew that all I had been through was not a dream; it was real, and it had altered who I was in an irreversible way.

I was determined to get out of the house, but my body would not cooperate. I couldn’t get out of that warped area; it held me captive there. And as I lay there, I could sense the gloom seeping into my consciousness and gradually gaining control of the situation.

I have no idea how long I was unable to leave that house, but it seemed like an incredibly long time. And as the gloom engulfed me, I became conscious of the fact that I would never be the same again.

My dear friends, what you have just witnessed is but a taste of the unspeakable evils that lurk in the most innocuous and unexpected of settings. Anyone who is courageous enough to seek out the darkness will eventually be consumed by it. The darkness is always waiting. Therefore, heed this warning and exercise extreme caution, as you can never be sure what secrets are hiding in the darkness.

This has been a fascinating adventure, and it is definitely one that I won’t soon forget. But keep in mind that simply because you cannot perceive the darkness does not mean that it does not exist. It never stops watching, never stops waiting, and never stops hungering.

I will see you again soon, but until then, adieu. But be on your guard, because you can never predict what kind of strange adventures may be waiting for you around the next bend.

The genuine evils that exist in this world are frequently discovered at the most unanticipated of locations. And with regard to the house that was located on the outskirts of town, well, let’s just say that I never brought it up again after that. But the memory of it has remained with me, serving as a continual reminder of the evil that exists in the world and the perils of indulging one’s curiosity.

I attempted to put the event in the past for many years, but it continued to torment me every time I opened my eyes. My mind will always be filled with thoughts of the twisted and dark room, as well as the figure that appeared to be wrapped in darkness. And despite my best efforts, I just couldn’t shake the notion that it was still somewhere out there, watching for me to find it.

Then, one day, a letter arrived in the mail addressed to me. It originated in the sleepy village that I had stopped by all those years ago. The letter provided specifics on the weird incidents that were taking place in the community, and it made reference to the abandoned home that was located on the outskirts of the community. It appeared that other people had come across the house by accident and had gone through the same horrifying ordeal that I had.

After that, I had no choice but to face the darkness that had engulfed me all those years ago; the only way to do that was to go back to the town. I made up my mind to finally put the past in the rearview mirror, so I packed up my belongings and started out on the long trek.

I didn’t waste any time after I got to the little town before I started making my way to the ancient house. However, to my astonishment, it was no longer in that location. A completely brand-new and up-to-date house stood in its stead. It was as if the house had never been there; I just couldn’t wrap my head around it.

But while I stood there, starring at the new house, I could feel the shadows moving closer and closer to me once more. And I was well aware that the home and the figure that was within it were still somewhere in the vicinity, patiently awaiting their next victim.

This is the narrative of my inquisitive experience, which is also a cautionary tale about the evil that exists in the world and the perils of giving in to our natural inclination to be interested. Keep in mind that there are some things that are better off unexplained and undiscovered since the terrors that lurk within may swallow us completely.
