Rain

Rain is nice to watch from  balconies
On leisure days, sipping flavoured sweet tea
Not when it catches you unaware, on the road
Drench and wet your only pair of shirts and coats.

Rain is nice when it falls on the roof at night
For you to sleep under soothing dim lights
Not when it overflows the roads and drains
Erode the earth and derail tracks of a train.

Rain is nice  when it falls gently and quiet
Whistling love songs you go on long drives
Not when it floods cities and towns
Enter parks and streets and house compounds.

Rain is nice when you travel on the train
Rushing through forests and gorgeous terrains
Not when you are up in the sky sitting in a plane
The pilot tells you  ‘it’s a little turbulence’, and reminds you to fasten your seat belts.

Rain is nice when it comes after awaiting for days
When the very first drop spread the soil’s earthy scent
Evokes the heart with desires for love and romance
The music of rain wants you to break into a jig and dance.
