Of Jack and Jills in Changing Times

Jack went up…and Jill came rolling after,
All for a pail of water!
An old nursery rhyme!
Now water went up to form those clouds;
Torrential downpour,
With surging streams,
That washed the hill,
That washed the glue,
That held the rocks,
With Jacks and Jills,
Stones came rolling after!

Care for now!
Dear, Jacks and Jills!
Don’t go to the hill,
During heavy downpour!
For many went up!
And lost their lives,
The Breaking News!
That condoled the loss!
Of precious lives!
When stones rolled over on them!

Cos of Climate change,
In changing times,
Sew it right,
Sew in time!
Change it now,
Change it right;
Time to do it,
Do it, do it, do it, now!
Do it, do it, do it, right now!

    Nice poem depicting today’s situation.

  2. Great poetry and message

  3. A good satire , quite timely.
It should have been ‘Only when the stones rolled over on them ‘ rather than ‘ when the stones rolled over on them ‘

Old nursery rhyme but now in the times of Climate Change. A very strong message indeed.

Possibly Sir, just wanted to repeat the lines in the poem, it was the pail of water that got them off balance and both of them rolled down (…rolling after)! It is frequent cloud bursts and mountains bereft of vegetation removes the glue effect that have held the rocks and stones. There comes a point when these stones ultimately roll over and bring along the mud with gushing waters after heavy downpour that makes matter worse. This phenomenon started some twenty years back in Malpa village of Pithoragarh District when a famous film personality died in the landslide under the mount of debris. The tragedy has been unfolding time and again, over years. How many people might have died in these accidents is a subject in iteslf. Surely it is part of Nature change, a subject under immense study all over the World. So far no concrete steps could be taken as retracing steps would put off so called development and the economy that would deteriorate would create chaos. It is also true that Societies and Nations are moving towards final disaster with Nature betraying the people thought to be responsible. Infact, no one is as the changes have been happening for unspecified periods, only being perceived now with methods to monitor these changes. Five extinctions have already taken place and sixth mass extinction has already begun. Forty % of marine life has already disappeared!

  7. Great lesson to Jack & Jill

Jack and Jill symbolic names are required to depict the satirical message on climate change. Failure of system responsible for climate change. No one care impact on earth, flora and fauna . Poet shows his worry through the Poem about climate changes occurring rapidly .I would like to give credit to Dr Rajesh Chauhan for taking initiative.

Your explanation is on the dot and has brought forth the purpose of writing the poem, bringing to the forefront challenges the Nature change is posing. It is still in its early stages but is likely to worsen in the coming decades! It is time for people to act on war footing to halt these changes, learn to accept discomforts and live life hard way!

  9. The message to act now, on Climate Change and take responsibility for the same, has been beautifully conveyed through this Poem, to one and all.
