Death, You are a Sonnet – A Translation

Death, you are a sonnet

A vow has been made to me by a sonnet that she will meet me

As the pain slumbers in drowning veins

(When) Moon, with its brazen stark face reaches the end of skies

The day, (when it) is still inside the water

The night (when it) is closer to the shore

Neither (there is) darkness nor light, neither (there is), now, a night, nor day

The body, when it ends, and when the soul can breathe

A promise has been made to me by a sonnet that she will meet me

Above is the translation of following poem by Gulzar
