Parental Guidance in a World Gone Astray

By Mark Antony Rossi

I’m told I’m a “helicopter parent” because I expect anyone in contact with my children to be accountable for their interaction with them. You should expect the same. In the 21st century the mind of a child is under more assault than ever before in recorded history.

We live in perilous times where the government, the political parties, the educational system and even religious institutions attempt in myriad fashions to intrude on the sacred bonds of parent and child. The World Wide Internet can be very unhelpful. A parental filter on computers is surely called for the impressionable years.

A “nanny state” mentality is prevalent in the mass media which conveniently frowns on family values when they conflict with permissive philosophies advocating sex education, teen abortion and reverse bullying (i.e., adherence to parental instruction.)

Major political figures such as Joe Biden and Hillary Clinton promote the collective rearing of children instead of strengthening the cohesive elements of the family unit. But this is not surprising since the erosion of family is beneficial to those fostering government dependency.

The dysfunctional family is the root cause of most societal issues ranging from drug use to hard-core criminal activity. The parental bond therefore is essential for a balanced family and a stable society. And regular attempts, whether accident or design, to undermine a building block of a free society is an affront to a moral common purpose and smacks of a dark agenda.

Love and guide your children to the very best of your ability by utilizing the values passed from your parents. Be vigilant against any inference from any organization. The first target by the enemies of freedom is the family unit.

And regardless of your political or religious persuasion if you surrender your parental responsibilities you are placing your family in grave danger. There is no better defined test measuring adulthood than the choices made to navigate a complicated world through raising your children with a foundation of hope, a sense of purpose and a willingness to challenge convention. All of these worthy pursuits may just elevate the quality of life for the family and community.
