Independence

Born  free,

Are  we ?

No,

Tied  with  umbilical cord

We’re  dependent  on  mothers

With  severed  placenta

We’re  dependent  on  others

Grew  up  to  be  chained

With  traditions

And  obligations

We  are  captives  without  walls

Restrained

With  social  constrictions,

We  celebrate  freedom

That’s  a  laugh

Freedom  from  what

Moral  policing,

Religious  terrorism,

Peer  pressure,

Daunting  future,

No,

We  are  bound  hand  and  foot

Fighting  nail  and  tooth

Struggling  to  be  free

From  forces  on  controlling  spree

Who  says  we  are  born  free ?

  1. It’s a beautiful very well written poem. It’s an expression of reality of what sort of freedom we are enjoying shackled from head to foot by something or the other.
