The Late Night Passenger!

by Swarnasankha Acharjee

It was during the wee hours when Vinita booked a cab to return back home after a late-night feast at a restaurant. Rohit, the cab driver, arrived at the location, and quite typically, she got into the backseat of the car on the same side as the driver’s seat.

After a while, out of generosity, Vinita offered a fish finger from some which she had packed to take home. Rohit at first hesitated to take, but on her persistent request, he took one. He took a bite of the fish finger while driving, and that bite shook him. He looked at it carefully only to discover it to be a cut finger of a human. A chill ran through his spine. He pressed the brake hard and the car screeched to a halt. He felt something touching his feet and immediately looked down to see what it was. The decapitated head of a girl was rolling there. With his whole body trembling, he picked up the head and it was exactly what he feared. It was the cut head of Vinita. He threw it back immediately and turned. Vinita was still sitting there, along with the head.

“Want another one?” Vinita said, offering another fish finger.
