Altering Times

How long you would be, you never know,

You had your own calculations before,

Now things are changing, you’d never know,

You calculated the mean longevity of your folks,

Your immediate kith and the extended ones

And you did your mathematics, your statistics,

You employed all methods to calculate,

Kept unearthing using steganography you learnt in masters

You tapped all the models,

Until you got what you wanted for answer,

Well, that’s the beauty of it, getting what you want

In mining of data, adjusting the coordinates.

Then all the dreams

You see it all petering out like dry ice,

You find the sky coming lower and lower

That you could touch with raised hands,

The air you have taken for granted would be there for you

Becoming rarer and rarer; it was always there,

You start buying water, you start buying O2,

You even start running out of regular fuel,

Then you think about the arrangements to be made,

About how to get things done when you are no longer there

How long you would be, you never know,

You had your own calculations you’d never know.
