Can you Help Me Cross the Road?

by Rabindra Soni

” Hey, can you help me to cross the road?” Said a boy panting as if was in very hurry to something. The man was startled to hear such help from the boy because the boys of his age usually are very skilled at stunt nowadays but that time it was not the same. The boy indeed asked the man to cross the road.

The man was thinking all this then again the boy asked the same question and nudged him with his left hand that had a bag of white colour. The man nodded his head in yes and clutched the boy’s another hand. The man however was suspicious of the boy. Something that he was not considering. He didn’t have any clue to wrap his head around it. He could see a twelve years boy with clumsy hair having rustic looks wearing a chequered shirt with shorts, his eyes were charismatic giving a better glimpse to his ordinary face. After clutching the man’s hand the boy didn’t look in hurry. It had been five minutes having waited for the turn. But they didn’t get their turn to cross the road. Whenever they were about to take a single step, all of a sudden a motorcyclist flashed with a gushing speed with his motocycle’s clamour, or within a moment there came a car or a truck with their tumultuous sound.

Now, the boy got agitated he flung the man’s hand in the air and knelt down on the road with a hopeless countenance. The man was aghast. The man went near him and patted on the boy’s back the boy, on the other hand, started crying bitterly and started shouting ” blood, blood look! blood on the road, look I killed this man lying there.” Pointing towards a specific side but there was nothing. All cars and motorcycles were moving as before. There wasn’t any bloodstain on the road nor on the boy’s body. So how come he told the man he killed a man. ” What are you saying? Have you gone mad there’s no man no blood, everything is alright” Said the man irritatingly. ” “No, there was a man whom I killed a moment ago, he is lying just before you and me and yes I have killed this man just a moment ago when I was clutching your hand waiting for our turn to cross but by getting annoyed with this these cars and motorcycles I hit a gr…. gravel stone which stroked right into the eyes of the man and made him fall on the ground and killed him.” The boy said and was hitting on the ground as if splashing the water.”

Look, this is blood coming from that man’s body, now the police will put me into jail, I don’t wanna go jail, please save me.” The boy stated hysterically as if got demented. The man was perplexed and baffled. He wasn’t getting anything that was going on. He tried to lift the boy with his heavy hands and saw around. To his surprise there was nobody, there was not a single vehicle not a boy either. There was he on the blood which now only he could see. ” Oh, my brother why did I let you die. I won’t spare that motorcyclist who killed my brother. I will eliminate each and every vehicle from the road and will spread blood and  I’ll romp like a frog on it.” After saying those words he got fainted. Two men came and carried him into the van and went to the asylum.
