The New Neighbor: Barn Shallow

With only two in a team

they had a big dream

to build a nest with a cavity

upside down, against the gravity.

Among hundreds of buildings, it chose my flat

to have a new neighbour I was so glad.

I went near to see, it did not flee

intangible bond sprung in me.

Flies a certain distance in search of clag.

With a pinch of clay, it comes back.

Sometimes mud falls down it never cares

nor even regrets or bothers to stare.

No engineers, nor architect on hire

no use of tools like hammer and pliers.

With a pinch of mud in the beak of flyer

the nest it has built is beyond one’s desire.

It piled the clay, pinch by pinch.

Its home kept growing inch by inch.

Nine days of toil completes its home,

where it can breed and secure its newborn
