The Devil’s in the Detachment

By Mark Antony Rossi

Recently, I debated a bioethics expert who objected to another expect questioning if parents have the moral right to withhold vaccinations from their children based on conspiratorial political ideology.

The issue is not complex but rather common sensical since many countries, regions and school districts legally mandate vaccination as a matter of public health. Diseases, viral outbreaks and deadly germs are not likely to disappear due to parental protest. The loving parental thing to do is obey the law and not allow children to be exposed to unnecessary harm.

Yet the so-called bioethics expert could only manage to object to using the word “moral” and labeled it a value-laden association. It’s truly disappointing to hear a member of the scientific community more concerned with human language than human lives. But this is the true state of science in the 21st century. A loose group of independent contractors who feed innovation to industry at the expense real time ethics.

My children are not safe in a world where louts in lab coats will freely trade random present lives for an unsteady theoretical future. Your children are not safe from scientific excess or its agents of retaliation who attack anyone with questions, inquiries, suggestions of oversight, etc.

The devil’s in the detachment when considering a lion’s share of scientists harbor arrogance and willful disregard for the average citizen. All the world’s a stage for experimentation and craven rationalization for a science philosophy that veers more and more towards a religion rather than a balanced crucible meant to burn away intangible superstition and foolhardy supposition.

We worry too much about the digital divide when we should concentrate on the establishment detachment from the average person. This communication disconnect is a serious obstacle to mutual trust and respect. Humanity shut out of technological advancement is not only being treated poorly it is not being viewed as human.
