     A Traveller

Across many known and unknown travellers I came-

In this life’s journey-

Each one of us traveling the same road of—‘Life’

I thought it’s good I’m not alone, there are other travellers too

I mused life, with the blessings of the elders would be easy and-

Blissful with the children whose innocent pranks-

Heave us out of the quagmire of misery and

When submerged in haplessness we are-

They with their tomfoolery brighten it up

But their virtuousness we snatch away –

Sowing the seeds of hatred in their heart

A wall of irrationality in relationship we erect!

We then groping in the dark travel ahead all alone

The elders having left for their long infinite journey!

Surrounded with old age helplessness we plod along

As weakness and poor sight grip us!

The children have grown up just as we have-

No time for us they now have-

Like birds they have soared away-

Some onto the path of righteousness

While some onto the erroneous path

Prayers are now the only hope for us and them

A temporary habitat for us, the travellers, this life is!

We are the guests of Mother Earth-

(The ‘Mother’ of the entire universe)

Never ever does she forsake us –

The blessings of our dear ‘Mother of the Universe’

We must take-

Before saying good bye to our life!

  1. A very realistic and eloquently described picture of life ! Ms Bannore’s work often depicts the life of the alienated and the isolated modern urban people in very ways .

  2. life, we all know as ms bannore poetically states is a mixture of ups and downs and no one is spared from its pangs
modern concept of nuclear family has made it only more poignant until finally ‘from dust we come and to dust we must return’
