By N. V. Subbaraman from Chennai, India
Great Mahakavi Bharathiyar- great national poet whose revolutionary songs raised Indians to join Mahathma Gandhi’s struggle for freedom. The extraordinary Tamil poet has sung scores and scores of poems that revolutionized the whole society. He has written a poem for the children and if only the elders teach the same to the children and bring them up according to the values enshrined, the earth will verily become a heaven!
Though it is addressed to the young ones, the values are for the whole society.
Here given is the song in Tamil original, transliteration for the benefit of non Tamil knowing readers and the translation of the poem in English. I am sure the readers will enjoy and tell their wards about the significance of the same.

Summarising the essence of life to all people in all walks of life
The poet plays the role of a Management Guru to instil lifestyle values in the minds of tiny tots which when lpractised will enable them to blossom as responsible citizens making the world a better place to live in harmony with nature a d God’s cocreations.
It is high time that we take steps to familiarise the children with the aspirations of the poet through leading a life by example and bringing back the value of harmonious living to universal practice instead of using it as a speculative pastime.
The inspirational poem of Bharathiyar is no doubt written for the children, but grownups too can
make their life better if they follow the advice therein. The simple but effective translation is appealing.
Thanks Shri ramamurthi and Krishnan for your nice response.
Bhatatiyar presented in lucid style to reach children . It is equally relevant to elders also. The transcription of sri nvs isa of high order equally matching to poet bharatiyar:-)
Thanks Madam Mona and Ramamurthi.
Habits formed as a child are firm in nature and deep-rooted to enable the tree of life grow big and meaningful to the society!
That may be the reason that drove Bharathiyar to address the child with all the attributes capable of transforming the society for its total Wellness!
He gave no chance for any ‘quality’ to be included later, for absorption!
And the way you brought them out in English is simply superb!
