Following is the translation of a tamil poem written by Subramania Bharati. Translation is done by Mr. NV Subbaraman, he lives in Chennai.
பகைவனுக் கருள்வாய் – நன்னெஞ்சே
பகைவனுக் கருள்வாய்
புகைநடுவினில் தீயிருப்பதைப்
பூமியிற் கண்டோமே – நன்னெஞ்சே
பூமியிற் கண்டோமே.
பகைநடுவினில் அன்புரு வானநம்
பரமன் வாழ்கின்றான் – நன்னெஞ்சே
பரமன் வாழ்கின்றான். (பகைவனுக்)
சிப்பியிலே நல்ல முத்து விளைந்திடுஞ்
செய்தி யறியாயோ – நன்னெஞ்சே
குப்பையிலே மலர் கொஞ்சுங் குருக்கத்திக்
கொடிவள ராதோ? – நன்னெஞ்சே (பகைவனுக்)
உள்ள நிறைவிலொர் கள்ளம் புகுந்திடில்
உள்ள நிறைவாமோ? – நன்னெஞ்சே
தெள்ளிய தேனிலொர் சிறிது நஞ்சையும்
சேர்த்தபின் தேனாமோ – நன்னெஞ்சே (பகைவனுக்)
வாழ்வை நினைத்தபின் தாழ்வை நினைப்பது
வாழ்வுக்கு நேராமோ? – நன்னெஞ்சே
தாழ்வு பிறர்க்கெண்ணத் தானழி வானென்ற
சாத்திரங் கேளாயோ? – நன்னெஞ்சே (பகைவனுக்)
போருக்கு வந்தங் கெதிர்த்த கவுரவர்
போலுவந் தானுமவன் – நன்னெஞ்சே
நேருக் கருச்சுனன் தேரிற் கசைகொண்டு
நின்றதுங் கண்ண னன்றோ? – நன்னெஞ்சே (பகைவனுக்)
தின்ன வரும்புலி தன்னையு மன்பொடு
சிந்தையிற் போற்றிடுவாய் – நன்னெஞ்சே
அன்னை பராசக்தி யவ்வுரு வாயினன்
அவளைக் கும்பிடுவாய் – நன்னெஞ்சே (பகைவனுக்)
Grace the foe!

Have seen the smoke in the middle of fire
On earth-good heart
On earth.
In the middle of our foes-love incarnate
God dwells- good heart
God dwells. (Grace the foe)

From the Oyster vile comes the limpid pearl
Don’t you know-good heart
On the garbage heap comes at times
The fine starry blossom wine-good heart!. (Grace the foe)

In the heart fulfilled if a black spot appears
Can it be fulfillment-good heart
In a cup of honey sweet, if a drop of poison is mixed
Can it be sweet honey good heart! (Grace the foe)

After the thought of life, if the thought of downfall comes
Can it be equal to life –good heart
He who thinks bad for others, bound to perish
Are you not aware of the dictum – good heart! (Grace the foe)

Like Kauravas who came for the war front
Also he came –good heart
In the chariot of Arjuna wielding the flog
Who stood was indeed Krishna-is’t not –good heart? (Grace the foe)

Even the tiger that comes to haunt you
Treat it with love in mind- good heart
Goddess Paras hakthi is indeed in that garb

The Tamil poem by Subramaniya Bharathi on ‘ Grace the Foe ‘, and its English translation by Shri.NVS is a good read.
Just as a flame in smoke, a beautiful Pearl inside the shell, and a lovely and fragrant flower in the heap of garbages, God the Almighty too is present in everyone, good or bad!
Co-existence of a diametrical opposites is thus not uncommon.
Foes are not meant to be left to fend for themselves ;
Flaws are bound to occur, but abundant grace will surely help one gradually get over the negative attributes in him /her.
According to Bharathi, both Duryodhana and Sri Krishna the charioteer of Arjuna in the great war between Pandavas and Kauravas are deemed to be one and the same to drive home the message that your foe and yourself are not different, and hence your preference to undo the foe is in fact a plot to destroy yourself!
No one in/her senses would intend mixing poison with honey as it’s a welcome sign to the hell.
So render justice to the foe by being gracious towards him!
