Europe: the New Kashmir

By the Editor: Siddharth Sehgal

Europe and particularly France, Germany, UK, Belgium and others, and I am embarrassed to say, are paying the price of their goodwill. They opened doors to people fleeing persecution, gave them opportunities, education and a safe haven to practice their beliefs and faith and yet their streets are red with blood. This may be a new norm for the west but Indians have seen it for decades in Kashmir.

What Kashmir is to India is what Chechenia is to Russia but Russians were wise in recognizing the problem and the grueling bitter diagnosis it would require to cure the disease. They took a very heavy handed approach and literally pummeled everything to the ground.  When Preachers, clerics and suicide bombers disappeared in shelling and gunfire, everyone came to their senses that may be caliphate is not a good idea. I am not advocating war but there has to be a boiling point, it is the same story everyday in Kashmir. Indian government has become a cash cow to some people in that state. Elements like Hurriyat and their sympathizers take money for the hospital and then plant IED’s near the highway. Pakistan’s overt and covert meddling had only made the situation worst for the people of Kashmir but they are the ones with most to loose. Supporting or eulogizing terrorists from the pulpits and loudspeakers of Mosques will not gain them a spec of ‘Azadi’. We had used carrot for too long may be a bit more stick might work.

Europe, if not in near future but definitely so in a far one will see an increase in attacks and violence regardless it decides to fight ISIS or not. Do you think Mullahs of Molenbeek will be preaching solidarity with the victims of Nice? Given the material that is readily available online to radicalize people, I don’t think it’s logistically possible for intelligence agencies to track each and every individual out there. Though, in most cases it’s the unmarried Muslim males from impoverished or criminal backgrounds. Yet, these are the most and not all that fit the type. All it takes is one guy to slip the net. It will reach and may be has reached a point where everyone is a suspect, European governments have a whole lot of hard choices to make in coming days.  Let’s hope its not too late for that.

  1. it’s a matter of great concern how terrorism can be thwarted . taking innocent human lives is an unforgivable sin . it is time to restore peace in the world and for this all the nations of the world must come together under one agreement and fight against this menace
