Week's Person

Person of the Week: Swami Supradiptananda

Dear Readers,

We are starting a new interview series where we ask few questions to people who are making a difference, it can be big, it can be small it doesn’t matter what matters is their contribution to our society. It can be anyone from any walks of life and from any country. Please, do send us suggestions of people whom you think we should interview for this series.

Swami Supradiptananda (2) (339x444)

Swami Supradiptananda oversees Ram Krishna Ashram, Gwalior center activities in fields of education, youth & child empowerment and development. He also runs the mission orphanage called Sarda Bal Gram which provides hostel, educational, training and medical facilities to orphans and kids from the impoverished backgrounds. He joined Ram Krishna Order as a monk at an early age.

Following are his thoughts on our questions.

1. Tell us a little bit about yourself?
I am dedicated to Ramakrishna Math and Mission and took up sannyasa life to serve Swami Vivekananda’s divine mission. I have decided to spread the Life giving message of Swamiji to the people and with special focus on the Youth, Government and Public Sector.
2. How many kids live in Sarda Bal Gram?
Around 150 kids (100 boys and 50 girls) all are below poverty line rural children.
3. What’s the most challenging and most beautiful aspect of running Sarda Bal Gram?
To win over the children and imbibe Swami Vivekananda’s idea i.e. “Service To Man is Service to God”.
4. What is Sarda Bal Gram doing to give these kids a secure future?
Trying to give them formal education along with agricultural education, health and hygine practices, Shramadaan, Personality and Leadership Development, to imbibe the sense of citizenship.

5. Can you share a memorable experience from your time at Sarda Bal Gram?

A 5 year boy just joined Sharada Bal Gram was having tendency of theft. We could successfully curb his this tendency after constant counselling. I told him to get 60 % marks in the first term school exam. I was pleasantly surprised he did work hard and after the result came to me and told in his typical way of speaking that he has secured 60% marks. This was the practical example of what Swami Vivekananda said, “Goodness pay but people don’t have patience to believe in it”. Now he is doing well and I am sure that he will be a good citizen of the nation.

6. What is your message for our audience?

“Serve The Man as Serving the God”.
